hUJe Privacy Policy and Mailing Policy

About this website

This website makes extensive use of "Active content" - a lot of page content is fixed, but some is created dynamically with Javascript. There's nothing sinister about our use of this, it's to save having the same content repeated on each page (e.g. for the menu at the top), which is a pain if you want to change something. Since our webserver doesn't support SSI, we've implemented scripts to insert the common content. There are some presentational uses too, like the slideshows that you can run on the pictures page.

Although you won't see the script if you view the page source (not repeating it in each page was the whole point!), the scripts are all viewable on the site (they're stored in the directory www.huje.co.uk/scripts) so you can satisfy yourself they're not malicious.

There may also be a movie or two written in Flash, where the scripts are only used to manipulate the content.

You may also notice that we run a couple of cgi scripts which I don't think you can view.:
write_add.pl What this does is generate three pages of invalid email addresses - the first is http://www.huje.co.uk/addresses/page.htm. These are to feed a lot of rubbish to the nasty little spiders that crawl around the web collecting email addresses to send spam to. This way we hope the spammers will have to spend more time and energy cleaning their databases - or at least it'll make a lower percentage of real addresses that the spam goes to.
page_ref.pl This is invoked when a page has been referred to with some parameters at the end (the url has a question mark followed by some stuff). The script writes the stuff to a file for us to look at later - you should be able to see what's been stored in the address bar of your browser. What we use this for is as a supplement to the HitsLink tracking that we use to see how you reached the site; to distinguish between different emails perhaps, or between an advert and an event listing on a dance website.

Our mailing policy

We send out information about hUJe parties and related stuff (like where our DJs are playing, or info about affiliated parties) via email and SMS to lists of people who have opted in. These are collected hand-written at our parties and electronically. The website signup requires confirmation from your email account before you are added, so it's impossible for someone else to add you unless they've got access to your account. We don't send info to anyone that hasn't asked for it (this was always our policy, even before it became the law). We keep track of where the address was collected so if you think someone else added you, we can help you try to find out who it was (or remind you when you did it!).

We do have co-mailing arrangements with some other parties but we don't share your address with them. We add the info about their party to the hUJe email we're sending out, and they do the same for us.

You can leave our mailing list anytime; instructions are included in each email, and we'll try very hard to make sure to remove you before any more emails are sent.

The data in this group has been marked as non-identifiable. This means that there is no reasonable way for the site to identify the individual person this data was collected from.

The following explanation is provided for why this data is collected:

We are conducting a survey of clubbers' habits and preferences as part of our market research in trying to set up hUJe in a permanent home. Answers to the survey are held as an individual set (for cross-correlation), but not linked to the individual's name. They will be analysed and summarised in our research, and NOT used for individually targetted marketing. We may provide summary and analysis results to other people although we currently have no plans to do this.

Group "Membership registration"

At the user's option, we will collect the following data:

This data will be used for the following purposes:
